New for Fall 2010

Hunter Douglas expands on their extremely popular Duette Architella Collection of honeycomb shades by adding Architella Batiste, and Architella Batiste Bamboo, made with one of  nature's most renewable resources.

These fabrics bring subtle, casual linen textures that are private yet more light filtering than other Architella fabrics. The innovative 'CrystalClear' inner honeycomb layer allows maximum light transmission while providing the exceptional insulating properties of an Architella shade.

Putting a twist on the Architella design, new Vignette Architella Tiered shades take Roman style shades to a whole new level. Add in the LiteRise cordless option and you may just have the perfect roman style shade!

Enhanced energy-efficiency from the layered construction, without sacrificing the elegance & beauty of Vignette shades.

Always searching for new ideas, Hunter Douglas has created a gorgeous
solution for those places where a drapery look is desired or needed.

Vignette Traversed with Vertiglide takes the simple elegance of Vignette roman shades and turns them into panels that effortlessly glide across your windows or doors.

What does THAT mean??

When shopping for window coverings you can sometimes get bogged down in the terminology. Here are some common terms you may have heard or seen and wondered about.

TDBU- Acronym for Top-Down/Bottom-Up. Shades operate from the top and the bottom; a great option when you want to allow light in, but keep your privacy, available for a variety of shade styles (See right)

LiteRise- Hunter Douglas' name for their cordless system. Available on a number of different shade styles, offers ease of use and child/pet safety.

Screen shade or Sheerweave- These refer to a popular type of shade fabric, which allows you to see out while blocking most of the sun. Most often used in a roller type shade, there are different levels of opacity, as well as a variety of colors and textures. At night, however, privacy is not complete. (See left)

Inside or Outside Mount- Every shade is mounted as one of these. Inside Mount means you are going to hang the shade within the frame of the window. Outside Mount means you will hang the blind on the face of the window, either on the trim or the wall above.

Silhouette- A Hunter Douglas signature shade characterized by soft S-shaped vanes suspended between sheer fabrics, they are quite unique. Diffusing harsh sunlight and maintaining your view when tilted open and offering total privacy when closed. (See right)

Vertical vs. Horizontal- When we're talking blinds, these refer to how the slats or louvers are oriented. For instance, a Vertical blind is vertical because its vanes or louvers hang 'up & down'. A mini blind or 'venetian' is horizontal because the slats sit 'on the horizon'.

Tame the sun, enjoy the view!

Energy Efficiency
Without energy-efficient window treatments, as much as 50% of a home's heating and cooling energy can be lost through its windows. All Hunter Douglas window fashions provide window insulation, offering your home increased protection against heat loss during the winter, as well as minimizing the sun's heat or "solar heat" during the summer.
Solar Heat Control
The warmth provided by the sun, its solar energy, may be desirable during the winter to help heat your home, yet it can make a room overly hot and uncomfortable while driving up air conditioning costs in the summer. Many Hunter Douglas products are designed to reduce the amount of solar heat that passes through the window, which is known as the Solar Heat Gain Coefficient (SHGC). The lower the SHGC, the more protected your home is from the sun's heat. To enjoy the sun's warmth when desired, simply raise or open the window fashion and invite it in.
Form & Function
Daylighting
Daylighting is the practice of lighting rooms with natural light rather than generating illumination from electricity. With Hunter Douglas window fashions, you can control how much natural light comes into your room. Our sheers and other select styles actually diffuse light as it enters and help to draw it deeper into the room. By drawing natural light into a room many of our window treatments reduce your energy needs for other types of lighting.

Styles such as Screen Roller shades (left) allow you to maintain an open feel, and keep a view while tamping down the glare of the sun by up to 99%.
Others, like Nantucket Sunscreen shadings (above, right) offer the view-through of screen shades while allowing you to tilt soft louvers for added light control & nighttime privacy.
For the ultimate in heat/cold insulation, look to Hunter Douglas Duette Architella shades (left). Their exclusive, innovative 'honeycomb within a honeycomb' design gives you three pockets of insulating air between you and your window, creating an R-value of up to 7.18 or a SHGC value as low as 0.17
UV Protection
Just as sunscreen protects our skin from the sun's damaging ultraviolet (UV) rays, window treatments protect our room interiors and add to the lifespan of valuable possessions. Virtually every Hunter Douglas product filters out at least 75% of the sun's harmful UV rays when installed over double-glazed glass windows. Many of our products provide even greater protection, up to 99%, when fully lowered and with slats, vanes or louvers in the fully closed position. The rating of Good to Excellent to Superior for this product will partly depend on the fabrics and product features you choose and whether your window covering is opened, closed, raised or lowered.
